This course is an introduction to the soulful style known as Boogaloo!
Boogaloo is both a dance and a genre of music. It is the marriage of Latin sounds such as Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, and Pachanga, with African American soul and doo wop. This mixture gives it a unique sound and feeling, often containing lyrics in English.
In most of its music and as it's applied on the dance floor, Boogaloo takes on the rhythmical structure of the Cha Cha Cha (Guajira). However, its essence can be found in any song with a funky and soulful feel.
Boogaloo Basics includes our usual warmup, main lesson, and demonstration format. Throughout this course, we will work on familiarizing ourselves with the elements that distinguish this style from more traditional Cha Cha Cha, how to apply it into our Mambo dancing, and most importantly, the feeling that defines it.
