Everything we need to develop ourselves in Afro-Latin dance can be found in our connection to the ground. We also need a method for revealing this relationship in order to properly put it into practice. We call this “ground-generated movement theory.”

Afro Latin Funk is rooted in concepts that connect our dancing to the natural, human mechanics already present in the dancer. Through classes such as ACBM Isolations and Movement Mechanics, we train the range of motion in all areas of our body, as well as our ground-generated process for transferring weight.

Body Movement Applications is a new Intensive that serves as a bridge between the two. It allows us a separate time to connect the skills practiced in Isolations with the weight transfer techniques of Movement Mechanics, by applying all of these skills simultaneously to the dance

We will begin with a warmup to introduce our bodies to various steps/movements in Mambo and Afro-Latin dance. Followed by the lesson that consists of a core set of movements and the footwork they are connected to. During this section we will breakdown the process of these movements, as well as the mechanics necessary for creating them through ground-generated weight transfer.

Our training will conclude with a short combination in which we will apply these movements to a rhythmical sequence, allowing us to practice applying the techniques covered in previous sections to our dancing.
