Shines are a training tool used to introduce and refine the basic principles of body mechanics, and the possibilities of movement and footwork. At higher levels, they serve as a base from which we can cultivate our ability to improvise freely over a set structure.
But shines alone are not the dance. And by looking at them as a tool rather than the end result, we can use them to further explore and develop our dancing indefinitely!
So, get your dance shoes ready and clear some space, because in this course we will be using shines to get us moving!
Mambo Shines Practice will begin with an extended warmup of well-known patterns from our classes, danced thru from start to finish. The lesson portion will consist of a breakdown of some longer, more challenging shines, which we will put together as a routine to use in warmups, for speed and dexterity drills, or simply to continue refining the techniques and process that each one holds.
Finally, we will end with an extended demo to music that will also serve as a run-thru of our new shines routine.
We hope this course gets everyone moving like we would at the studio, and can serve as a reminder that there are still many ways for us to preserve our training until we’re able to do so in-person once again.
